FBD: Heineken invested 170 million euros in Russian beer plant

November 26 2009 - Heineken has invested more than 170 million euros in the expansion and modernization of its Russian "Volga" brewery plant located in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, local media reports. 

The production capacity of the plant has increased to more than 50 million decalitres of beer per year. The modernization has allowed Heineken to transfer to Nizhny Novgorod some of its premium beer brands, which previously were produced at the capacities of "Heineken Brewery" plant in St. Petersburg, such as “Heineken» and «Amstel».

Currently Volga brewery remains one of the strongest Russian assets of the Dutch company with high production capacity.

According to president of Heineken Russia Dimitar Alexiev, "amid a highly competitive beer market in Russia, the company always strives to strengthen the position of its brands in the key regions of the country.

He also added that the today’s investments will help “Heineken», to become the leading brand in the Central part of Russia while the second premium brand Amstel will also allow to strength the positions of "Volga" brewery.

Recall that the production of another  successful premium brand Doctor Diesel was already launched at the capacities of "Volga" in October 2009.
