October 30 2009 - Louis Dreyfus Corp.'s Coffee Group is investing around U$3.4 million in a dry coffee mill and warehouse in Perote, Mexico.
For the first time investing in that country, the project will target both export and domestic markets.
The new plant named Beneficio el Cofre is at an altitude of nearly 8,202 feet in the state of Veracruz, with storage capacity of 200,000 60-kg bags of coffee.
According to the International Coffee Organization, Mexico is the world's sixth biggest coffee producer.
"The company is making a push on the investment side, really across all the commodities," said Jaye Irwin, vice-president of Louis Dreyfus Coffee Group, a part of LD Commodities Group. It will add onto the existing Compromex S.A. de C.V., the local subsidiary of Louis Dreyfus Corp, Irwin said.
"Plans for the site include future expansion into a multiuse facility for other commodities such as sugar and cotton," a company release said.
