Bumble Bee Foods(R) Launches New Prime Fillet(R) Tonno in Olive Oil
Leading Household Brand Brings Gourmet Italian-Style Tuna to the Dinner Table, Extends Premium Prime Fillet(R) Line

SAN DIEGO, July 22 (FoodBizDaily) -- Bumble Bee Foods , America's leading premium tuna brand, is bringing elegant convenience to dinner tables across the country. Following the success of its premium Prime Fillet albacore and salmon products, Bumble Bee has announced the national launch of Prime Fillet Tonno in Olive Oil. The new gourmet-style canned tuna is the first of Bumble Bee's Prime Fillet products to be packed in olive oil--the traditional and preferred style in Europe.
Each individual five-ounce can of Bumble Bee Prime Fillet Tonno contains two servings of Italian-style gourmet yellowfin tuna packed in olive oil.
"In developing this delicious new product, we wanted to provide a convenient dinner solution that is of the highest quality, has superior taste, and can be a part of a nutritious meal," said Bumble Bee Chief Executive Officer Christopher Lischewski. "Premium tuna packed in olive oil has been popular among the food elite for years but now with Prime Fillet Tonno this gourmet-quality product is more widely available at a reasonable price."
He added, "Families have trusted Bumble Bee for more than 100 years to provide healthy, affordable and delicious food options. As consumers look to shrink their grocery bills without sacrificing quality we believe that Bumble Bee is the right partner for consumers looking for affordable, nutritious products that can be easily incorporated into a variety of recipes and enhance healthful family meals."
Bumble Bee Prime Fillet Tonno is rich in protein, providing many of the same health benefits as fresh fish. Tuna is a significant source of healthful omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s have been linked to improved heart health, reduced hypertension, aid in fighting autoimmune diseases, and improved mental health. Further, the olive oil Prime Fillet Tonno is packed in contains monounsaturated fat which has been linked to lower risks of bad cholesterol and heart disease.
Prime Fillet Tonno is now available at select stores nationwide. Suggested retail price is $1.99 per five-ounce can.
Dine on Prime Fillet Tonno straight from the can, in salads, or in delicious Mediterranean and Italian-inspired recipes such as the following pasta dish.

2 (5 oz.) cans Bumble Bee(R) Prime Fillet(R) Tonno in Olive Oil, drained
6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 large sweet onion, cut into 1/4 inch dice
2 red bell peppers, deseeded and cut into 1/4 inch dice
1 vine ripe tomato, diced
5 cloves of garlic, minced
1/3 teaspoon dried rosemary
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper
1/2 cup dry white wine
1 small jar of green olives stuffed with pimientos, drained
2 cups rigatoni pasta
1 tablespoon thinly sliced chives
Dry aged parmesan, grated
Pinch of crushed red hot pepper flakes (optional)
Heat olive oil in a large saute pan over medium-high heat until nearly hot but not smoking. Add diced onions and cook for approximately 5 minutes until soft. Add diced red bell peppers, reducing to low-medium heat and cook until peppers are soft. Add diced tomato, minced garlic and rosemary sprig leaves. Season with sea salt and freshly ground pepper.
Cover and cook over low heat for another 10 minutes. Add dry white wine and simmer covered for 5 minutes. Then, add drained whole olives and drained Bumble Bee Prime Fillet Tonno in solid pieces to sauteed mixture. Cover and cook until tuna is heated through (approximately 3 to 5 minutes).
Cook the rigatoni pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water according to the package directions or until al dente. Drain the pasta in a colander, leaving behind a little moisture. Gently toss the pasta and tuna sauce to blend. Place in a serving dish or on individual plates and garnish with thinly sliced chives and grated dry aged parmesan. Top with a pinch of crushed red hot pepper flakes to add a little more heat.
