New Product: Tropicana unveils Trop50 - Orange Juice sweetened with Stevia - 50% less sugar

Breakthrough innovation with the goodness of orange juice and 50 percent less sugar and calories

CHICAGO, March 30 (FoodBizDaily)  Tropicana Products, a division of PepsiCo, Inc. (NYSE:PEP) this week launches Trop50(R), a breakthrough category innovation delivering the goodness of orange juice with 50 percent less sugar and calories, and no artificial sweeteners. It is naturally sweetened from the stevia plant and along with juice squeezed from fresh oranges it delivers a taste consumers expect from Tropicana.

"Tropicana enjoys a rich heritage of products that meet individual lifestyle and wellness needs of our consumers. We take great pride in leading the category based on the input we receive from our widespread and passionate consumer base," said Neil Campbell, President of Tropicana. "Trop50 is a unique and groundbreaking product for people looking to reduce their sugar and calorie intake while still getting powerful nutrition."

This new addition to the chilled juice aisle answers the call for those who seek less sugar and calories and want to avoid artificial sweeteners in their diet. At 50 calories, each eight-ounce glass of the Trop50 orange juice beverage squeezes in a full day's supply of vitamin C and is a good source of potassium. It also provides 10 percent of the daily recommended intake of antioxidant vitamins A and E.

Actress Kyra Sedgwick Makes Debut as the Face of Trop50

In addition, Tropicana has tapped Kyra Sedgwick -- the Golden Globe winning actress and star of TNT's acclaimed series, "The Closer" -- to be the face of Trop50. Sedgwick will appear in the new national advertising campaign - which launches this week with a television spot and print ad to follow.

"Tropicana has been part of our family routine for a long time and I love Trop50 because it delivers the goodness of orange juice, but with just half the sugar and calories," said Kyra Sedgwick. "People today want to be healthy - they want to eat and drink products that will be good for their bodies and give them energy throughout the day. Trop50 is really a perfect choice."

The television ad, directed by Peter Arnell, shows Sedgwick drinking a glass of Trop50 on a bright sunny morning that clearly ignites her day: after just one taste she dances with abandon around her kitchen to Tom Jones' famous hit, "She's A Lady."

Breakthrough Innovation

This breakthrough category innovation is a result of more than 18 months of research and development working to find the perfect intersection of taste, nutrition and reduced sugar and calories. Tropicana's proprietary formulation ensured that Trop50 contains important nutrients such as vitamin C and potassium. These nutrition benefits, the taste and the addition of a new all-natural sweetener make Trop50 a unique choice that meets the needs of consumers.

"It's not just that Trop50 offers half the sugar and calories," says Susan Logue, Ph.D and Director of R&D. "It's how we make it happen together with the groundbreaking use of Stevia that make this product an exciting new choice for consumers."

Trop50 offers a perfect combination of delicious Tropicana orange juice and the highest quality, all natural pure extract of the stevia plant that enhances the sweetness and flavor of orange juice, naturally.

What is Stevia?

The all natural, no calorie sweetener in Trop50 is PureVia(TM), which is made from a high purity extract of the sweetest component of the stevia plant called Reb A. In Trop50, PureVia enhances the sweetness and flavor of juice made from fresh oranges, naturally. Trop50's new innovation replaces Tropicana's previous Light 'n Healthy orange juice beverage that was made with an artificial sweetener.

Trop50 is available in three varieties - Trop50 Pulp Free; Trop50 Some Pulp; and Trop50 Pulp Free Calcium & Vitamin D, which provides an excellent source of both nutrients. All varieties are packaged in 59-ounce cartons, which are available for a suggested retail price of $3.59, and Trop50 Pulp Free Calcium & Vitamin D is also available in 12-ounce bottles, which are available for a suggested retail price of $1.69. Trop50 is currently rolling out nationwide and available wherever Tropicana Pure Premium(R) products are sold.

Consumers can visit www.Trop50.com for more information and to sign up to receive a coupon for $1.00 off a carton of Trop50, which is available for a limited time only.

Gravatar Excuse me, I have not tried the Trop 50 as of yet, but my main concern was the shoes the actress is wearing on the the commercial. I really like the style. Can you give the brand name or website where the shoes can be viewed. I'll try the juice on my next visit to the grocery. I'm on a sugar free fast right now.

Gravatar stole from zimbo.com, fyi:

Our dear readers remember these Martin Margiela sandals from Kate Bosworth.

Kyra’s sandals are from the current Martin Margiela collection. The sandals feature extra wide cone-shaped heel, cuffed ankle, slingback, and peep toe. The sandals are yours for $658.00 from farfetch.com.

Martin Margiela is a Belgian designer and has worked with Jean Paul Gaulier. His first collection was presented in 1988.

Gravatar Why Kyra??? Another skinny. blonde, white woman. Healthy doesn't have to be so anorexic looking. Real women have curves. The music selection "She's a lady" great song, but why does the face of a lady have to be so predicatable. Tropicana you dropped the ball on this one -great product idea, however your selection as a spokesperson leaves a great deal to be desired. She's not the face of American Women looking for a low-calorie energy pick me up.

Gravatar I completely agree with Bella on the overall look of the commercial and the chosen actress. Tropicana really did drop the ball -- but along with the shoes, the shrug and top are beautiful, wonder if they are in the same price range as the shoes?

Gravatar Kyra has been hot for many years. Why has no one thought of this before. It seems in her appearances they try to hide her beauty. Is she shy about her good looks?

Whey to go Kevin!

Gravatar Sorry Bella and Panda, but I guess you were wanting to see a big overweight black woman since this skinny blonde white woman is not to your standard. I think she looks great and have even heard other people at work talking about good she looked. Tropicana did not drop the ball.

# Glaring Grammatical Error in Your Ad for Trop50

Left by Mary Hunt, freelance copy editor at 4/14/2009 1:28 AM
Gravatar I saw your ad for Trop50 on TV recently and couldn't believe that your main slogan contained a grammatical error. Would you like to know what it is?

Gravatar Is that really Kyra doing the split at the end of the dancing? WOW! The juice is great, but Kevin should be proud.

Left by AH at 4/14/2009 11:37 AM
Gravatar Mary Hunt: I'd like to know the error. I'm an extremely picky grammarian, and other than the use of sentence fragments, I can find no other error. If failure to use complete sentences is your beef, how do you watch anything on t.v. at all?

# re: Grammatical Error

Left by Really Picky at 4/14/2009 11:48 AM
Gravatar And by the way, the error, if indeed there is any, would belong to the marketers of the product. You are misattributing the error to the FoodBizDaily.com website editors with your statement, "I saw your ad..."
If you are going to be a strict grammarian, start with your own post.
Would you like to know what errors you made?

Gravatar Hi folks,

We understood that Mary Hunt is referring to an error in the TV spot, not in the copy...

but if there is one, please let us know and we will correct it ASAP.

Gravatar Give me a break.... if you are sitting around trying to find grammatical errors in T.V. commercials, you really need to get a life, seriously... who cares!

Kyra looks fantastic! I'm not sure i'd want to go out and try it, to be perfectly honest, if there was some 200 lb. woman dancing around as she does so perfectly in the commercial... whether the woman be black or white!

A final note... this juice is absolutely delicious, my daughter and i are hooked! :)

Gravatar Saw your ad on TV. As currently being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, I was very interested in this product. However, product is not available in the town where I live and our grocery store have not heard of it either. I did call the store's customer line and asked if it was coming to our stores. They said that all decisions are made at Head Office and would pass along my request. I would like to try this product.
