Brazil's January retail sales jump beats forecasts
SAO PAULO, March 11 (Reuters) - Retail sales in Brazil surged in January from the previous month, beating analysts' forecasts as consumers rushed to buy appliances and benefit from government tax breaks, government data showed on Thursday.
Sales volumes in Brazil rose 2.7 percent in January from December, statistics agency IBGE said.
Sales had been expected to climb 1.6 percent, according to the median forecast of 16 analysts surveyed by Reuters. Estimates for the increase in sales ranged from 0.8 percent to 3.5 percent.
