PepsiCo’s Quaker Snack Mix Voluntarily Recalled

March 10 (Bloomberg) -- PepsiCo Inc. said it voluntarily recalled about 275,000 packages of Quaker Snack Mix Baked Cheddar in the U.S. because the product contains hydrolyzed vegetable protein.

The ingredient was earlier recalled by its maker, Las Vegas-based Basic Food Flavors Inc., because of potential salmonella contamination, Purchase, New York-based PepsiCo said in an e-mailed statement. The cheddar snacks were distributed nationwide, PepsiCo said.

“HVP is a very minor ingredient in the seasoning for this product,” PepsiCo said. “Although every seasoning lot tested negative for Salmonella, and there are no reports of Salmonella- related illness related to this product, the product is voluntarily being recalled out of an abundance of caution.”
