January 20 2010 – In order to source fresh produce directly from the farmers Bharti-WalMart has today opened its first Agricultural Cooperative Center in Northern Indian state of Punjab.
“At Bharti–Wal-Mart it is our constant endeavor to develop and work with local suppliers to develop an efficient and robust supply chain by reducing waste and ensuring qualitative, fresh produce for customers at ‘Easyday’ and ‘Best Price Modern Wholesale’ stores,” Bharti–Wal-Mart Managing Director Mr. Raj Jain said.
Agricultural Cooperative Centre will supply fresh agricultural produce to Bharti-WalMart’s stores.
Mr. Jain also said, “This initiative will substantially increase the prices farmers get for their produce. It will also directly link farmers to consumers providing them access to quality produce at low prices”.
Bharti–Wal-Mart’s partner Bayer CropScience, a leading global company in providing innovative products and combined solutions for the production of quality food, feed and fiber, has designed a scientific solution for the farmers of this Agricultural Cooperative Center by way of their '5P' process like best practices in Production, Protection, Program monitoring, Passport and Post-harvest, Bharti–Wal-Mart sources said.
